CONGRESSES-SPORT EVENTS

Patras is an excellent choice for the organization of international congresses. The easy access to the city via air, land or sea (by ferry-boat), the existence of various venues for congresses of all sizes, the hotels and generally all the necessary facilities, as well as its unique historical monuments, the beaches and the beautiful countryside, all form an ideal destination for congressional tourism.





 




CONGRESS CENTRES:
  • Congress centre of Patras University: it accommodates 2.000 participants, 1080 participants in its central hall. It also comprises of 11 other halls (that can accommodate 250 to 400 people), which are equipped with special booths for interpreters and all the latest audiovisual installations.   • Congress centre of Higher Technological Educational Institute (ATEI): a main hall (capacity 500 people) with a full technical installation, followed by 3 halls for various workshops.
  • Congress centre of Achaia-Clauss - Cellar No 9: a hall for 500 participants and also an auxiliary hall for 120 participants.
  • Porto Rio Hotel: a hall for 300 participants.
  • Astir Hotel: a hall for 650-700 participants including a coffee-break room.
  • Hotel Poseidon Palace: a hall for 150-200 participants according to arrangement.
  • Patras Palace Hotel: a hall for 350 participants.




SPORT EVENTS

Patras is an ideal location for sports events. The city's assets include a fairly easy access, a variety of necessary facilities, many monuments and entertainment choices, a favorable climate for any sport, as well as a multitude of indoor and outdoor sports venues (12 indoor sports halls, 2 indoor stadiums, 3 aquatic centers, 4 halls for heavy sports etc). These sports centers have hosted important international events, such as: the Olympic Games of football, Juniors World Basketball Championship, European Championship of Volleyball (1995), 13th European Championship of Rhythmic Gymnastics (1997), 11th Juniors and 4th Women's European Championship of Tae kwon do (1997), European Master of Gymnastics (1999), Women's European Basketball Championship (2003) etc.

In 2007, 16-23 September, will take place the World Gymnastics Championship which is directly the qualifiacation for the Olympic Games 2008 in Peking.
